What to Look for in a Franchise Support System

  • Joe Fox

A strong support system can be the difference between thriving and struggling as a new franchise owner. But “support” means more than just initial training.

Comprehensive Training:
Look for programs that cover not only operations, but also marketing, customer service, and technology. Ask how training is delivered—on-site, virtual, or both—and how often refreshers are offered.

Ongoing Operational Assistance:

Good franchisors provide field representatives, coaching calls, and resource libraries to help you navigate challenges.

Marketing Support:

National advertising is great, but local marketing guidance is essential. Ask if they supply templates, campaigns, and co-op advertising funds.

Technology & Tools:

From point-of-sale systems to CRM platforms, technology should streamline your work, not complicate it.

Peer Community:

Some of the best support comes from fellow franchisees. Check if the brand encourages networking, conferences, or online forums.

Takeaway: Support is a long-term partnership. Choose a franchisor committed to your success beyond grand opening day.
